Dear Educator:
Wisconsin Partners for Clean Air and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources have developed a School + Business = Clean Air! program which is designed to teach children the importance of clean air. Teaching children the impacts of their actions on air quality at an early age will hopefully result in better air quality and promote continuous improvement.
The science, math, and language arts lessons are targeted for sixth grade students; however, additional materials have been developed for each of the grades five through eight. You are free to use as much (or little) of this material as you feel can be integrated into your teaching plans. Feel free to cut and paste!
Poster contest & incentives: The poster contest is only open to sixth-grade students to keep things manageable for WPCA staff. Each student is asked to create a poster that positively addresses one or more ways to keep the air we breathe clean (e.g., ride a bike or walk to get somewhere, plant a tree). Wisconsin Partners for Clean Air members will consider each poster's message, content, design, and degree of creativity in determining winners.
One poster from each classroom will be selected for the final round of judging. The top 12 posters will receive prizes and will be featured in a traveling exhibit or calendar. The student who designs the "best" poster will receive the top prize: a corporate gift from his or her winning school. Poster Contest Details and a Work Timeline.
Register (PDF* 14kb) your school (Note: you can register to receive only educational materials if desired.)
We look forward to hearing from you and your students because it all adds up to cleaner air.
Sincerely,
Jessica Laub
