School + Business = Clean Air
Information for Businesses
The School + Business = Clean Air program brings schools and businesses together to promote ways in which individuals can improve air quality. You are invited to be an active participant in this program by registering your company as a host site for a student poster-art exhibition during the month of May. The posters can serve as a way to kick off the ozone season and promote alternative commuting strategies and other clean air activities.
Each participating student is asked to create a poster that promotes alternative transportation modes and other clean air activities. Roughly 25 to 32 posters will be available for viewing in an exhibition at each work site. In addition to the poster project, a lesson plan has been developed to instruct students on how to keep the air we breathe clean.
What is the significance of partnership?
The partnership between schools and business is an excellent way to illustrate the importance of alternative modes of transportation to employees, especially during ozone season. It is also a great way for your business to get involved in the community and to provide kids with some real life examples of what businesses do to keep the environment healthy.
How to Participate
- Send in your Business Registration form by January 30. (Click here to download the registration form (PDF* 95kb)). If your business already has a class or school with whom you’d like to work, please let us know when you register.
- You will be notified who your partner school is by the end of February. Please contact your partner school during the month of March to introduce yourself and let the teacher know that you are enthusiastic about displaying the class’s clean air posters during May. You may want to offer to go into the classroom to speak to students about what your business does to keep the air clean. Or, you may invite the class to visit and tour your business site (better yet, both)!
- Exhibit the clean-air posters created by your partner class as a kick-off to ozone season that begins May 1. Posters can be placed in public areas (e.g., cafeterias, break rooms, office hallways, reception areas, community rooms) through the month of May. Schools participating in the contest will submit their posters to the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce (MMAC) for judging in the poster contest by your fellow Wisconsin Partners for Clean Air members. Once winners have been decided, the posters will be transported to your organization.
- Return the posters directly to your partner class after you take down the posters at the end of May.
