1999 Recognition Awards
Former Secretary of WiDNR - George Meyer, recognized several members of WPCA in the business community at the Keep Greater Milwaukee Beautiful annual event on May 17, 2000.
These businesses have forged a partnership to notify employees when an Ozone Action Day is called. In addition, the 1999 award recipients voluntarily reduced emissions on a daily and year-round basis. Their actions ranged from changing their manufacturing processes to providing incentives for employees to use public transit and carpooling to get to-and-from work.
The 1999 Wisconsin Partners for Clean Air recognition awards went to:
CNH Tractor Plant in Racine(formerly Case Corporation)
CNH Tractor Plant has improved efficiency and reduced VOC emissions from 1996 to 1999 by 68 percent (from 71 to 23 tons). It also deserves special recognition for developing an approved process to quantify and recognize voluntary VOC reductions from industrial sources.
PPG Industries
PPG voluntarily changed its coatings and resins manufacturing facility in Oak Creek during 1998 and 1999 and reduced 83 tons per year of VOC emissions.
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
UW-Milwaukee established an alternative parking and commuter transportation program which encourages employees to choose public transit over "solo" driving for their work and travel. Over 700 UW-Milwaukee employees participate in this program.
Special Recognition
Peter Beitzel, Chair of Wisconsin Partners for Clean Air and Vice President of Business Development at the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce received special recognition for his commitment to Wisconsin Partners for Clean Air. Mr. Beitzel's leadership and dedication has helped move this coalition forward from its inception (in December 1996) into this new millennium.
